Uh Oh! Fighting Holiday Overeating
So it’s that time again; it is time for homemade pies and lots of yummy comfort food. It’s getting colder and suddenly it seems like there are Holiday candies and cookies that sneak home with my husband from work Some days it seems hard not to give in to the temptations of the Holiday treats that are around during this time of the year. What’s a gal to do?
I am going to beat it this year, this never-ending temptation against my will power, by using some of my tried and true methods and sticking to them. Eating slowly, drinking water before a meal and using a smaller plate will all stay in effect during this time. I will limit the amount of “treats” by standing firm and knowing it will all pay off in the end with lost pounds.
Another idea I have, as I am thinking about my holiday meals, I can plan to cut back the number of dishes I am making; no need to put enough food for an army when I only have a small family!
This will all help. Also, I am making healthier choices with the dishes I do make. Less fat, more veggies, more homemade food, less pre-processed foodstuffs.
Above all, for me, is the idea of “moderation”. Just a bite or two of everything will fill me up. No need to over indulge when I can enjoy my food in smaller quantities.
It is my hope that these ideas might help some of you who are struggling with your weight. It is not the end of the world; you don’t have to deprive yourself, but you don’t have to gorge yourself either. Taking a step back and remembering that the reason for the Holidays is family and friends, not food. Focus on what is important and you WILL have a successful Holiday Season!
